Possibly one of the strangest things I have ever seen, a young German boy wearing a Pakistan cricket shirt.
I can’t speaka Italian, onlya broken English.
I’ve been happy with my German this trip. I didn’t realise before how good my aural comprehension is, for example seminars and lectures and doing administration things have been absolutely fine. I just have troubles when I’m in situations that I’m rarely in/have never been in before. For example, when I got my hair cut and there was a bunch of pieces of vocabulary I had no idea how to express.
What I’d like to improve on still is telling stories in German. I don’t bail and switch to English like I used to, but I slow down a lot trying to translate a lot of colloquialisms into German in my head and also trying to keep the story funny and interesting and that’s a challenge.
Another thing is German is ruining my English. I’ve noticed I’ve been typing “i.e.” a lot when writing in English as a half-hearted attempt at translating “das heißt” or “also” into English - I even said “also” really drawn out and pronounced and Germanly during an English conversation! And I’ve been told that my English is no where near as fluent as it usually is, that I seem like I’m thinking about what words I need to use.
My troubles can be portrayed in this sentence, which I wrote in a message to a friend: “I don’t have my timetable on me but I think Tuesday not that good is”.
